Rainbow Circle Films in partnership with Story AB and SABC has completed production of the Ikon South Africa Series: Basement Bioscope. Basement Bioscope, a short documentary showcase, was made possible by the South African Swedish Partnership with funding from Department of Arts and Culture, the Swedish National Coundil for Cultural Affairs (Kulturrådet), South African Cultural Partnership Programme, SABC and the Embassy of Sweden, Pretoria.

The Pilot phase of the Ikon project was supported by the Swedish Film Institute, the NFVF, the SABC, the Swedish / South African Culture Partnership Programme, and the production companies, Story (Stockholm) and Rainbow Circle Films (Cape Town).

The first Ikon WORKSHOP in 2001 resulted in the production of 8 short documentary films distributed under the IKON SA SHORT DOCUMENTARY SHOWCASE title.

One of these films, Deafening Echoes by Eugene Paramoer, was broadcast twice on SABC and the other films have subsequently been broadcast as part of the Ikon SA pilot showcase produced with NFVF, SABC 1 and Swedish Film Institute support. The entire showcase has travelled to many filmfestivals across the world.

The IKON South Africa / Sweden project is a recipient of funding from the the Swedish South Africa Culture Partner-ship Programme.
